Dr Mark Benton

Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr Mark Benton is an experienced General Practitioner and Sports Medicine Specialist with over 18 years of medical practice across the UK and Australia. Originally trained at Manchester Medical School, he has worked extensively in emergency medicine, general practice, and musculoskeletal care.

Mark has a strong background in sports medicine, having worked with elite athletes across multiple disciplines. He has provided medical care for professional football (soccer) clubs in the UK and held roles in Rugby Union with Saracens and London Irish. His expertise extends to event medicine, where he has served as the lead doctor for UK national teams at major international tournaments. Currently, Mark is part of the medical team for North Melbourne Football Club, with a special interest in knee and ankle injuries, particularly tendinopathies.

Beyond sports medicine, Mark has a keen interest in rheumatology and men’s health, having led a regional rheumatology service in the UK. His approach to patient care is holistic, emphasizing communication, patient involvement, and evidence-based treatments. He strongly advocates for exercise and nutrition as key components of overall health.

Mark is dedicated to helping athletes and active individuals recover from injury, optimise performance, and maintain long-term health.
