Tailored Advice. Evidence-Based Analysis. Injury-Smart Footwear Choices.

Whether you’re training for your next marathon, getting back into running after injury, or simply wondering if you’re in the right shoes for your walking load — our Running & Footwear Assessments are designed with you in mind.

At Physiosports Brighton, our expert podiatrists take a whole-person, performance-driven approach to running and walking footwear. We assess your biomechanics, and how your footwear directly affects performance, comfort and injury risk and provide you with a set of recommended footwear you can confidently go and purchase.

Our 1-on-1 Running & Footwear Assessment includes:

1. Detailed History & Goal Setting

We begin with a thorough discussion around your running or walking goals, injury history, training volume, and past experiences with shoes.

2. Biomechanical Assessment

We assess your lower limb strength, flexibility, and joint function to better understand your foot type and running or walking mechanics.

3. Gait Analysis

Using video gait analysis, we review how you move — both walking and running (if relevant) — to identify movement inefficiencies, asymmetries, or load issues that may contribute to current or future injuries.

4. Try On-Test: On-Treadmill Footwear Trial

We stock a curated range of performance running shoes from trusted brands including Asics, Nike, and Mizuno. You’ll have the opportunity to test different models so we can assess your gait in real-time while wearing each option. This hands-on approach allows for a more accurate and personalised shoe recommendation.

5. Expert Recommendations & Plan

We provide tailored advice on the best shoe type for your needs, along with:

    • Gait retraining strategies (if needed)

    • Strength or mobility exercises to support healthy foot mechanics

    • Training load modifications to reduce injury risk

WHO IT'S FOR

  • Recreational or competitive runners
  • Walkers logging high step counts daily
  • Anyone recovering from foot, ankle, knee, or hip injuries
  • People starting a new training program or returning post-injury
  • Teens and adults buying new runners and unsure where to start

Why It Matters

Wearing the wrong shoe — or even the right shoe at the wrong time — can overload tissues and increase injury risk. By addressing foot mechanics, gait, and shoe structure together, we help you run or walk more efficiently, comfortably, and safely.
